The U.S. Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) has showcased a significant capability by successfully demonstrating the loading and unloading of the AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) onto the MC-130J Commando II aircraft. The airmen also demonstrated the arming of Rapid Dragon using the AGM-158. This demonstration took place at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Aug. 6.

The AGM-158 JASSM is a highly sophisticated, low observable standoff air-launched cruise missile designed to maintain aircrew safety by engaging hostile air defense systems from a distance without compromising its lethal impact. Rapid Dragon, on the other hand, presents a precision munitions capability specifically tailored for medium-sized or larger cargo aircraft. This advancement offers U.S. forces a versatile and rapid response option in challenging operational scenarios.
The MC-130J Commando II, a special operations variant of the C-130 Super Hercules, was employed in this exercise, showcasing its agility and adaptability. The significance of this achievement lies in its potential to expedite the process of forward arming and deployment of AGM-158 missiles for fighters and bombers in a forward location.
