The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) successfully carried out landing and take off trials on the Terbanggi Besar–Pematang Panggang–Kayu Agung toll road in Lampung on Feb. 11.

A Super Tucano and an F-16C, both landed safely on the highway and took off afterwards.
“Everything was reported to be in safe condition. So essentially, what we planned was accomplished safely and smoothly,” said Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan at the site.
Ermawan described the trial as a significant milestone for Indonesia’s defense system. He emphasized that Indonesia employs a total defense system in which national security extends beyond the military’s domain alone.
Indonesia joins Singapore and Thailand in demonstrating the capability to operate combat aircraft from roads that are converted into temporary runways.
