RTAF T-50 veered off runway during training flight

A Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) T-50 advanced jet trainer veered off the runway at Wing 1 airbase, Nakhon Ratchasima, during a routine training flight on the morning of Apr. 23, the Royal Thai Air Force confirmed, adding that the pilot walked away unharmed.

The incident happened at 10:45 AM while the jet was conducting a training sortie within the Wing 1 base area. No other personnel were injured.

The Air Force said the aircraft is now being assessed for damage, with repairs to follow in line with standard maintenance procedures. Wing 1 and related units moved quickly after the incident, securing the perimeter and implementing flight safety protocols. Initial reports indicate that regular flight operations at the base were not affected.

“The Royal Thai Air Force places the highest importance on flight safety and will take every measure to maintain the highest safety standards continuously,” the RTAF Spokesperson’s Office said in a statement released on the same day.

The Air Force’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee has opened a formal inquiry into the cause of the runway excursion. Investigators are examining three areas — technical factors, environmental conditions at the time of the incident, and operational factors — with the aim of preventing a similar occurrence in the future.

The RTAF has operated the T50 as part of its pilot training program for several years.
