Head of U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command Gen. Mark D. Kelly told reporters Feb. 26 that the Reforge experiment is still moving forward, despite the program being delayed by COVID-19.
The flying branch is looking at leasing eight advanced jet trainers such as the KAI T-50 or Leonardo M346 for an experiment to change how student pilots are being trained.
Kelly says funding for the program will be requested in the fiscal 2022 budget but he has yet to secure five years’ worth of funding to keep the experiment going.
