PLA’s conflicting views on the threat posed by USAF’s heavy aircraft
Derek Solen, a senior researcher at the U.S. Air Force’s China Aerospace Studies Institute, wrote this opinion piece on two recent articles by the Chinese military about the U.S. Air Force’s use of heavy planes, like bombers and cargo planes, for different missions than they were originally designed for. The first Chinese article questioned whether these efforts were useful or even possible. However, another article soon followed that argued that these efforts actually pose a threat.

F-16s with 148th Fighter Wing are wired up with new AN/APG-83 AESA radars
Nine F-16Cs assigned to the 148th Fighter Wing’s 179th Fighter Squadron have swapped their old AN/APG-68 radar with the new AN/APG-83 AESA radar.

Japan strengthens defense on Yonaguni Island with air defense missile unit.
The Japanese Defense Ministry has included the cost of acquiring 180,000 square meters of land necessary for deploying an air defense missile unit to the Yonaguni base of the Ground Self-Defense Force in the budget plan for fiscal 2023.

F-35 JPO confirms decision to ground a number of F-35s
The F-35 Joint Program Office has released a statement to Defense News confirming that it had issued guidance to ground a limited number of newer F-35s following a crash involving an F-35B on Dec. 15 in Fort Worth, Texas.
