Exercise pits INS Vikramaditya’s air wing against IAF fighters

India’s largest aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, is sailing towards the coast off Gujarat and the ship’s air wing will have to defend the task force from mock attacks carried out by Indian Air Force Jaguars and possibly Su-30MKIs.

A senior defense official told Times of India the excise is somewhat similar to Ex Opposed Arrival that was held in 1976. That year, INS Vikran had to fend off attacks from MiG-21s, Su-7s and Hunters flown from Air Force Station Jamnagar.
