Rescue of Saudi F-15 crew was USAF’s first night water CSAR mission since Vietnam

The Jolly Green Association gave its Rescue Mission of the Year award to Alaska Air National Guard’s 210th and 211th Rescue Squadrons for saving two Saudi F-15 aircrew members in the Gulf of Aden last year.

Both units were activated while being deployed to Djibouti.

The mission was challenging due to low visibility and was the U.S. Air Force’s first night water combat search and rescue mission since Vietnam War.
