The U.S. Navy has declared that USS Kitty Hawk is to be scrapped and there are no plans to make the ship available as a museum.

The news came as a surprise for the USS Kitty Hawk Veterans Association, the veterans had raised more than $5 million of donation pledges and will submit an application to turn the vessel into a museum when the ship becomes available for donation.
Navy Office of Information spokesman Lt. Seth Clarke said the decision to scrap the carrier is unlikely to change.
