Japan’s new Maya-class Aegis destroyers will be equipped with the SM-6 interceptor, JiJi Press reports.
It will be part of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense initiative that the Japanese Ministry of Defense is promoting.
The first ship, JS Maya, will conduct SM-6 test-firing in the U.S. as early as 2022.
