A successful ground demonstration of solar energy to radio frequency (RF) conversion for the Space Solar Power Incremental Demonstrations and Research (SSPIDR) Project has been successfully conducted.
Manufactured by Northrop Grumman, the single “sandwich tile” will be the first of many panels that will form up to a square meter onboard the Arachne satellite that will launch into space in 2025.
Scientists hope to generate electrical power by converting solar energy in space and beam it back to earth.
