AT-802U FTU will join ranks at Will Rogers ANGB

The Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, Frank Kendall, has made a significant decision regarding the future of air operations at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma. After carefully considering all options, Kendall has selected Will Rogers ANGB as the sole candidate location to replace its current fleet of MC-12 Liberty aircraft with the advanced AT-802U Sky Warden and to convert the MC-12 Formal Training Unit to the AT-802U Total Force Integration FTU.

The base will bed down 28 AT-802Us and the 310th Special Operations Squadron has been assigned to take over the AT-802U FTU role.

The 310th Special Operations Squadron is a unit of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) that specializes in providing air support for geographically isolated special operations forces. The squadron is equipped with a fleet of aircraft capable of conducting a variety of missions, including close air support, armed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and precision strikes.

Under the decision made by Secretary Kendall, the 310th SOS will relocate from its current base at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico to Will Rogers ANGB in Oklahoma. This move will bring the squadron into closer collaboration with the 185th Special Operations Squadron, which is already based at Will Rogers ANGB.

A site survey is a comprehensive evaluation of a specific location to determine its suitability for a particular purpose. In the case of Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma, a site survey will be conducted to assess the base’s operational requirements, potential impacts on existing missions, housing, infrastructure, and manpower needs. This information will be used to determine whether Will Rogers ANGB is capable of supporting the mission of the 310th Special Operations Squadron and the deployment of the AT-802U Sky Warden aircraft.

The site survey at Will Rogers ANGB is scheduled to take place in spring 2023 and will be conducted by personnel from the Department of the Air Force. They will carefully evaluate all aspects of the base to ensure that it meets the necessary requirements and can support the operations of the 310th SOS and the deployment of the AT-802U Sky Warden. The results of the site survey will be used to inform the final decision on whether to base the AT-802U Sky Warden at Will Rogers ANGB.
